First wave of speakers and sessions announced for WildPhotos 2024

Wildscreen and Wildlife Photographer of the Year have announced its first wave of speakers and sessions WildPhotos.  The one-day event, taking place on Sunday 13th October in Bristol, UK, will span headliners, panels and lighting talk sessions, featuring a world-class line-up of wildlife photographers.

Charlie Hamilton James is announced as Headliner. The world renowned National Geographic photographer, filmmaker and author, will share his latest project “End Times” which explores his evolution from photojournalism into an artistic exploration of global environmental collapse and how we consume information about the natural world.

MPB Announced as Headline Sponsor

MPB, the leading online platform for used photo and video is announced as Headline Sponsor of WildPhotos 2024.

Matt Barker, MPB CEO, SAID: “MPB is dedicated to opening up the world of visual storytelling in a way that’s good for the people and the planet. Partnering with Wildscreen amplifies important conversations about the natural world and showcases the incredible skill of visual storytellers. With circularity at our core, MPB promotes sustainability, diversity and inclusion in everything we do. We’re delighted to sponsor WildPhotos for the first time, amplifying our shared values and purpose-led mission to inform and inspire action about the environmental threats facing our planet.”

The first line-up of lightning talk sessions and speakers are:

The Conservation Narrative: Beautiful wildlife images make people care about the natural world – we need them – but the stories that must be told, the photographs that must be seen, are the ones that shine a light on our relationship with the natural world. Conservation storytelling creates a visual narrative, with photography as evidence, of what is happening to wildlife and wild places as well as highlighting solutions.

Jaime Rojo, Morgan Heim and Hannah Reyes Morales will share a diverse range of topics from butterfly migrations to coastal communities that explore this storytelling genre.

The session is kindly supported by the International League of Conservation Photographers (iLCP).

Water World: There is more water than land on our planet yet for many our oceans, freshwater lakes and rivers and wetlands, that liminal space in between, are an enduring mystery.  However, these ecosystems are critical to the overall health of the planet.  Home to myriad species and a source of joy and sustenance for millions we need to understand the state of our waterways.

Photographers Justin Gilligan, Shane Gross and Tony Wu will share their experiences across multiple environments from coral reefs to vernal pools to open oceans.

They join previously announced Headliner, Thomas P Peschak. In his keynote presentation, “Amazon, A Journey from The Andes to the Atlantic” the National Geographic photographer and marine biologist will share his 396 day journey following the course of the Amazon River and its tributaries across South America, from snow-capped Andean volcanos to pristine lowland jungles, through coastal mangroves and across the Caribbean, where the river meets the sea.

The full wave of sessions and world-class photographers will be announced mid-August. The event is produced and hosted by Kathy Moran, Jury Chair for the Natural History Museum, London’s Wildlife Photographer of the Year. It is aimed at professional and amateur photographers, industry thought leaders, photography suppliers, and conservationists.
