Wildscreen Festival Announces International Talent Bursaries With Support From National Geographic Content

Wildscreen, with support from National Geographic Content, launched applications for Wildscreen Festival Bursaries to support international natural world storytelling community members to attend Wildscreen Festival 2022.

The programme aims to support better inclusion and representation within the wildlife film and television sector by tackling systemic barriers to entry, disproportionately impacting historically underrepresented groups. The global scheme will provide four internationally based individuals fully funded access to the festival live in Bristol, UK, from 10-14 October 2022. Twenty fully funded online passes to the festival will also be made available to international storytellers through the programme to join in the festival’s first fully hybrid event.

“National Geographic Content’s sponsorship of the Wildscreen international talent bursaries underscores our commitment to increase the inclusion of diverse storytellers to have access and opportunities in the natural world storytelling industry,” said Tom McDonald, executive vice president, Global Factual and Janet Han Vissering, senior vice president, Natural History at National Geographic Content, in a joint statement.

“Natural history tells global stories so it’s vital that we increase the global voices who get to tell them – these bursaries are one of the steps that National Geographic is taking toward achieving that.”

The programme will provide fully funded and unrivalled access to the sector’s leading industry event, enabling recipients to be at the forefront of the natural world storytelling industry. The four live festival bursaries will give inclusive access covering all accommodation, travel, festival passes, and expenses. The festival will also provide Attendees with Festival mentors and buddies to ensure support on the ground at the event. The twenty online bursary passes will give access to the live stream of the festival content, online networking during the event, and the festival platform for three months. All bursary recipients will receive a complimentary annual Wildscreen Network Membership to provide further support and opportunities year-round.
